About Newcastle Ontario
Newcastle, Ontario is a fantastic place to call home. It is located within the Region of Durham, Municipality of Clarington. It is conveniently close to the 401 for commuters and the closest GO train station is approx. 10 minutes east in Oshawa, although there is talk of the GO line being extended to our neighbourhing town Bowmanville. This would greatly improve the commuting options for our residents who work towards the West. As residents ourselves, we know first hand how wonderful the community, schools, resources, natural areas and housing is here in the village of Newcastle.
Generally, Newcastle can be seen as two areas – the Village of Newcastle, which is the area to the North of the 401, surrounding the original downtown core, and the Port of Newcastle, which is South of the 401 and is predominantly newer development. Surrounding the town, however, there is a strong rural community and overall there are real estate options for just about any buyer from traditional single family homes, to farms, Estates, waterfront properties condos, and townhouses. We have it all!

The Village of Newcastle is located at the apex of Hwy 401 and Hwy 115, along Lake Ontario, about 10 minutes East of Oshawa. Newcastle is located within the Municipality of Clarington, Durham Region. There is a vibrant historic old downtown, complete with shops, restaurants and pubs - all within easy walking distance from much of the Village. There are also two large grocery stores located in town, as well as a pharmacy, library, dentists, physiotherapists, bakery, florist shops, two hardware stores, postal outlet, physiotherapists and chiropractor....to name a few. Some of our favourite local places to eat and drink are: The Old Newcastle House, Walsh's The Snug, Massey House Restaurant and Dee's Harvest Table. As the town grows, more amenities are being added, while preserving the historic look and feel of the downtown core. For example, you'll notice that our relatively new Shopper's Drug Mart and No Frills have a very uniquely historic aesthetic not commonly found in the majority of other communities - this allows us to modernize and add conveniences and amenities for our residents, while respecting and paying homage to the history that makes the Village of Newcastle so special. Newcastle Town Hall is located in the centre of town at Mill St and King Avenue, where many events take place - the hall can be rented out for functions and weddings, complete with a gorgeous grounds and gardens in the summer, and in the basement we even have a 4 lane bowling alley! A new firehall is in the process of being built, just outside town, and a few years ago a state-of-the-art new Recreation Centre on Rudell Road was built - complete with a large gymnasium and two indoor pools. The YMCA hosts drop in programs for parents and children at both the Town Hall and the Newcastle and District Recreation Complex. We currently have two wonderful elementary schools in the Village of Newcastle - St. Francis of Asisi Catholic Elementary School, and Newcastle Public Elementary School - both of which house daycare centres for preschool aged children. The Pines Senior Public Elementary School is located just North of town on Hwy 115, and is attached to Clarke High School. In the past few years,Newcastle Public Library was also built, adding to the features that this great community has to offer. Over the years, we have had many builders develop pockets of housing around the old downtown core. Geranium Homes, Dunbury Homes and Halminen Homes are a few of the builders with established completed projects, while HR Developments (now known as Lindvest) and Thornridge Homes are currently developing and building the Gracefields neighbourhood, just North of Hwy 2 and Rudell Road, on the West end of the Village. Brookfield Homes also has a master planned family community in the works, towards the North end of the Village. To the East of the Village you'll find Newcastle Golf Course and Bloom Field Gardens. The Village of Newcastle also has a vibrant business community, with a strong and positive network of local professionals - many, belonging to the Newcastle & District Chamber of Commerce. The Municipality of Clarington also has a very strong Heritage Committee, and for those interested in the history of Newcastle Village, there is a map of Designated Historical Buildings within the Village of Newcastle. Newcastle is a balanced and friendly community, bridging new and old, modern and historical.
It is a wonderful place to live and work, and for those considering a move to the Village of Newcastle, we encourage you to give us a call - we'd love to provide you with more information and answer any questions you may have.
